A Word to the JAG Family
Each January, our JAG family begins the year by intentionally seeking God together through prayer and fasting. We believe that when we put God first, He aligns everything else in our lives. These 21 days are not about rules or pressure, but about creating space for God to move in us, our families, and our church.
Why We Fast
At JAG, we fast because we want to grow deeper in our relationship with God. Fasting is a biblical practice where we intentionally set aside food (or other distractions) for a period of time in order to focus more fully on prayer, Scripture, and listening to the Holy Spirit.
Fasting is not about earning God’s favor or proving spiritual maturity. It is about dependence—choosing to rely on God more than on comfort or routine.
Biblical Foundation for Fasting
Scripture shows us that fasting has always been a part of God’s people seeking Him:
Matthew 6:16–18 – Jesus said, “When you fast…” assuming fasting would be part of a believer’s life.
Joel 2:12 – God calls His people to return to Him with fasting and repentance.
Daniel 10:2–3 – Daniel fasted to gain understanding and spiritual insight.
Acts 13:2–3 – The early church fasted and prayed when seeking direction from the Holy Spirit.
Fasting doesn’t change God—it changes us. It quiets the noise so we can hear His voice more clearly.
Purpose of Our 21-Day Fast
As the JAG family, we are fasting and praying together to:
Grow deeper in our personal walk with Jesus
Seek God’s direction for our families, our church, and our future
Develop spiritual discipline and hunger for God
Begin the year with God as our first priority
We believe God has great things ahead for JAG, and this fast helps prepare our hearts to receive all He wants to do.
Types of Fasts
Not everyone fasts the same way. Pray and ask God what kind of fast He is leading you to participate in.
Complete Fast – Water only (only if medically able).
Partial Fast – Skipping certain meals or fasting from sunup to sundown.
Daniel Fast – Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and water (Daniel 1 & 10).
Selective Fast – Giving up specific foods or drinks (sweets, caffeine, soda, etc.).
Non-Food Fast – Fasting from distractions such as social media, television, or entertainment.
Practical Helps for Fasting
Pray before you begin and clearly define your purpose for fasting.
Start small—obedience matters more than intensity.
Replace mealtimes with prayer, Bible reading, or worship.
Stay hydrated and rest when needed.
Give yourself grace. If you struggle or miss a day, don’t quit—keep going.
Health & Wisdom
If you have medical conditions, are pregnant, or take medication, consult a doctor before fasting. God honors wisdom and obedience.
Walking Through the Fast Together
We encourage you to stay connected during these 21 days—attend services, engage in prayer moments, and encourage one another. We are stronger when we seek God together.
“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” – James 4:8
We are believing this will be a powerful season of growth, renewal, and spiritual breakthrough for you and for JAG.
